Installing and setting a Bernstein safety hinge

This is the process for either fitting new or replacing an old Bernstein safety hinge.

Étape 1 - Remove old hinge

...If installing a new hinge (i.e not replacing one) this step is skipped

Using an allen key, undo the bolts that hold the hinge to the door and the frame.

...It is advisable to have a second person holding the door when the hinge is removed.

Étape 2 - Affix new hinge

Reverse process from previous step being sure to replace any spacers or washers used on the original.

Étape 3 - Set the new hinge

With the door CLOSED and the new hinge attached. Tighten the gold coloured bolt in the top of the hinge to the point where it snaps off.

This hinge is then set to have a closed contact when in the closed position
