Justification for the use of a Network Access Server box to link later Microsoft operating systems (8, 10) with earlier systems (Xp, 95, DOS)

Since windows 8 / Server 2016 release, Microsoft have introduced better quality and more secure file sharing and networking protocols. This means the older operating systems such as DOS, Windows 95/98 and Xp can no longer be networked to newer systems. They are incompatible. This raises the following problems on Stuga machinery with older operating systems
Windows Server 2016 onwards will not allow a shared drive to older OS, therefore the file transfer will be impossible
The older flowlines have a DOS PC on the saw side, and a windows PC on machining centre side. The DOS PC will not be able to network with the Machining centre PC, therefore the machine cannot work
If the PC in an older Ecoline is upgraded to Windows 10, the saw will no longer be able to read batch files from the ecoline hard drive. this is a serious issue because it is important that both machines share the same data
A NAS box can be place on the customer network to provide a zone with lower security, allowing all operating systems to access one shared folder. The NAS boxes generally allow IP addressing, NETBeui computer names and plenty of storage space. Stuga are able to offer a fully configured solution where a customer has this issue.
