Issue connecting to the Windows XP machine on F060.

Problem

Issue connecting to the Windows XP machine on F060. This is down to SMBv1 being uninstalled by default in the latest version of windows 10. I could ping the IP address and the pc name but not link to the share.

Putting \\F060 or \\10.0.2.45 in the address bar just came up with an error cannot connect, and the diagnose could not find a problem. Mapping using a NET USE command came up with a more helpful message telling me the link was not allowed as it used SMBv1 and provided the following link

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4034314/smbv1-is-not-installed-windows-10-and-windows-server-version-1709

Solution

to re-enable SMBv1 I did the following

  • Control Panel
  • Programs & Features
  • Turn Windows Features on or off
  • Tick the SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support and sub features(Automatic Removal/Client & server)
  • Click OK

After a reboot I can now connect to the WinXP flowline.

This is just a note in case someone has the same issue connecting to WinXP.
